Peace again in Kunduz city!
IN AFGOur greatest joy in 2016 was the consolidation of our school in Kunduz! Until October 3, when the Taliban have once again invaded the city, as in 2015 in the same period. This year, the Afghan armed forces, with American help, managed to oust the Taliban from the city center after 11 days. But during the fightings, the situation was catastrophic, dead, wounded, tortured people, burned houses and shops, no more electricity, no more water, no more food. On October 12, I finally got to talk with my local partner Zabi Majidi who told me that the school was intact because it is located near the airport, a more secure area. Fighting continued in the suburbs. But on October 13, Zabi held a ceremony to celebrate the return of peace. And the children could finally leave their homes to come and play in our garden. Classes resumed on Saturday Oct 15, which is like our Monday according to the Afghan calendar.
The 120 children attending will learn, play and eat healthy and sufficient food again. It is a joy to see them happy and smiling!
On October 12, the children could finally come back to the playground in our school, after 9 days of war and confinement to their homes.
On October 13th, Peace celebration
On October 16, classes coud resume, finally!
