End Of Year Examens Are Approaching…
IN AFGOur primary school in Kunduz is fine! I just spent an hour in video conference with my partner Zabi who guided me in the 6 classes, in the kitchen, in the yard, even in the showers and toilets, which were just cleaned! it was so emotional !
I spoke with some teachers, some students, I said hello to the cook and the gardener who was sitting near the day guard holding his Kalashnikov in his hand. I saw the children at the table for lunch – rice, vegetables, bread and an apple . Some days, we also give meat, I saw a mum in a burqa eating in a small corner next to the local for the guard, she came to pick up her child. Another woman was sitting in the garden eating a portion of rice our staff offered her.
Boilers for hot water in the house and in the showers no longer work. We will have to look for donors to replace them. Because washing dishes – for 130 children – in cold water, is not very effective. And washing your hands or taking a shower – after football games for example – in cold water in winter is not very pleasant.
The children seemed happy to learn, the employees were smiling, they are all very committed and motivated.
On December 5 begin the exams at the end of the school year. They are supervised by representatives of the Department of Education and last until almost the end of December. Zabi will certainly organize a year-end ceremony and then, in January 2020, we will open the winter school again. With breakfast for all!
Our 130 students are so happy to come to school and learn, even during the 3 months of winter holidays!
Thank you for continuing to support us in offering instruction, meals and also fun to these underprivileged children of Kunduz!
