Kunduz – Latest News from our School
IN AFGOur winter school from January to mid-March welcomed 120 children between the ages of 7 and 17 from poor families. We offered 63 girls (they are the majority!!!) and 57 boys a breakfast and lessons in Mathematics, English, Computer Science and Religion. In addition, we bought them warm socks and underwear!
In February, Zabi Majidi organized a demonstration for peace, so much desired by the population. This is the photo on the cover.
Then, shortly before March 15, the opening of the primary school, Zabi had the outdoor games, broken chairs and tables repaired and the repainted.
And … 3 days after opening, we had to close because the Covid-19 had come also to Afghanistan.
With the reserves of rice, oil, etc. purchased in advance, Zabi organized the distribution of these basic food items to the poorest families, especially those with fatherless orphans. But there’s not enough for all families, especially as prices have risen or even doubled in a few days.
Help us provide food for these desperate families in making a donation!
Here is more positive news: Fatema Aziz, parliamentarian and originally from Kunduz, participated in the planting of some symbolic trees in our yard.
We hope that this calamity will soon end and that our school can reopen so that the children can educate themselves and look forward to a better future!
